Reflections: A Drumm Retrospective - 55th Anniversary - Sept 26 - Oct 24, 2026
In 1971, Don and Lisa Drumm began Don Drumm Studios and Gallery at 437 Crouse Street and built a legacy. Together they built a career upon Don's boundless creativity and Lisa's devotion to craft and education.
This exhibition, "Reflections: A Drumm Retrospective" showcases the early work of Don and Lisa. In the late 1960s, Don was known for incorporating Brutalism in his pieces. Brutalism first gained prominence in architecture and later moved into other art disciplines. Don's pieces at this time featured bold geometry with stark lines, and often with asymmetrical elements. Even his choice of aluminum for home accents and decor shows how he incorporated this style into his work.
Lisa also began working with her love of fiber arts during this time. If you visit the gallery, you can see their skillful collaboration in cast aluminum pieces artfully joined with macrame textiles.
Lisa is also known for her soft sculpture collection of "Knotty Dolls." In Lisa's own words: "This creation is intended to excite the imagination of a child and arouse his or her native curiosity. Bells, buttons, zippers, and pockets hint at surprises and hidden delights." These knotty dolls were designed and created by Lisa Drumm; her soft sculptures embody a combination of hand and machine stitching in a joyous array of color and texture.
